As the saying goes, to really understand FIRST, you need to experience FIRST.
We can start to try to describe FIRST by asking “What inspires you?” Check out this video to see what inspires us!!
Introduction to FIRST Robotics Competition
Founded by inventor Dean Kamen, the mission of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders. FIRST does this by engaging students in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership skills.

Through a series of local, regional and World Championship competitions, FIRST seeks to get students interested in all aspects of science and technology. Most importantly, students work with volunteer science, engineering and business mentors as they design, build and program a 120-pound robot. The robot is built to meet the demands of the competition game challenge that changes every year. LogoMotionTM, a game involving manipulating large inflatable tubes representing the three components of the FIRST logo, is the 2011 FIRST game challenge.
FIRST is about much more than just building and competing with a robot. The program enables high school students to learn about working as a team, fundraising, making corporate presentations and, in general, “Gracious Professionalism™.” FIRST Robotics lets students appreciate the fun and hard work of making advanced technology a reality, whether the student is interested in engineering, business, or mechanics. FIRST Robotics encourages young women and men to see engineering, science and technology as career options. Nearly one-quarter of our 2011 team is comprised of young women!
